Schedule of common garden activity:
By early March of the year choices should be made about garden planting and purchasing. Most plants need to go into the soil by late March/early April. Soil, fertilizer, and tools are usually purchased at this time, and the annual tasks include choosing and buying this material and equipment, which means ordering or going to retail stores to select and buy. If you want to participate in this process please communicate with other gardeners by March 15.
Donated/shared furniture and equipment:
If you have (or plan to) donated permanently or temporarily share furniture or equipment (chairs, tables, grills, etc.) for the season to the building in the common garden area please inform the Coop Board.
'Donated' items belong to the building and cannot be taken back or away without communicating with the Coop Board. Shared items should be labeled as such to avoid damage, repair, or removal by other residents. Do not use the garden to 'store' unwanted items.
External lawn beds watering maintenance:
Ideally needs to be set up by mid April. The task includes checking all equipment for damage (hoses, timers, sprinklers, etc.), transporting, organizing, and locating the equipment in the external beds. Spigots need to be opened from inside the basement, sprinklers tested for spray patterns, timers set to operate at the necessary times and intervals. This need to be checked often and maintained for at least 5 months, making adjustments according to weather, damage to equipment through accident or intentional vandalism, and moving of hoses and sprinklers by the lawn mowing people, etc. At the end of the growing season all equipment must be labeled as to location used, cleaned up, assessed for damage, batteries removed from timers, and transported into the basement and stored. Spigots should then be turned off from inside the basement to avoid freeze damage to pipes and spigots.
