BLACK TUMBLER IS OPEN FOR:
- fruit & vegetable scraps
- coffee grounds & tea bags
- green plants
- garden trimmings
- fresh leaves & flowers
- grass clippings
- bread & grains - egg shells
- nutshells
- corncobs
- food-soiled paper towels & napkins
- shredded newspaper
- fall leaves, twigs & woody pruning
- dry plant material
- straw & hay
- pine needles
- potting soil
Please CHOP water melon rinds, broccoli or flower stalks and ADD PAPER (shredded docs, newspaper, brown shopping bags, egg cartons and similar). Also, when possible, give the bin a tumble after adding fresh scraps.
Green tumbler is closed. Please do not add any fresh scraps; paper and tumbling are welcome.

Compost status
To all composters in the building,
We talked with some compost expert about our compost having a hard time ripening. An issue can be the sun hitting the bins and causing too much condensation and keeping it too moist for too long (some bacteria won't become active in excess dampness).
As a result we decided to move the bins across from their original location, where there is more shade.
Our bins are not ready to receive new kitchen scraps, but they are happy to be tumbled as often as you can. So, please do it.
Another way to help with the compost is to shred newspaper, brown bags and egg cartons into a bag and leave it by the door with the letter A on it, across from the garbage bins.

Mature Compost For All
You'll see two containers: a smaller one with a gray lid and a bigger one with a yellow top.
This compost can be used for:
- our backyard beds
- new annuals to be re-potted
- your home plants
Please feel free to help yourself starting by using the compost in the small container first.
In the meantime please remember to tumble the outdoor compost bins (a large black one and a small green one) and do not add any fresh kitchen scraps or garden clippings to them.
